NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) Certification
The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) Certification is the gold standard in the firearms community for range safety and supervision. This course is designed for intermediate-level students looking to become certified Range Safety Officers (RSOs). The program equips candidates with the knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities necessary to organize, conduct, and oversee safe shooting activities and range operations.


This administrative course is conducted entirely in a classroom setting with no live-fire training. Candidates will learn:

Roles & responsibilities of an RSO

Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Range inspections & safety rules

Conducting range briefings & emergency procedures

Firearm stoppages & malfunctions

Each participant will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and official course materials. To pass the course, students must complete a written test with a minimum score of 90%.

Note: This course certifies students as RSOs but does not authorize them to teach the material. The NRA encourages active shooters and firearm handlers to pursue this certification to help promote range safety and responsible shooting practices.
